A method of inhibiting release of a soluble form of a KIM-1 polypeptide from a cell, the method comprising contacting a cell expressing a KIM-1 cell surface polypeptide with an effective amount of an isolated antibody or antigen-binding-fragment thereof that binds to the extracellular domain of the human KIM-1 polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:7 at an epitope within or overlapping the amino acid sequence:
- SSDGLWNNNQTQLFLEHS (SEQ ID NO:1).
A method of inhibiting proteolysis of a KIM-1 polypeptide, the method comprising contacting a cell expressing a KIM-1 polypeptide with an effective amount of an isolated antibody or antigen-binding-fragment thereof that binds to the extracellular domain of the human KIM-1 polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:7 at an epitope within or overlapping the amino acid sequence:
- SSDGLWNNNQTQLFLEHS (SEQ ID NO:1).
A method of treating renal disease or injury in a mammal, the method comprising administering to the mammal an effective amount of an isolated antibody or antigen-binding-fragment thereof that binds to the extracellular domain of the human KIM-1 polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:7 at an epitope within or overlapping the amino acid sequence:
- SSDGLWNNNQTQLFLEHS (SEQ ID NO:1).
