Abstract
Run-time behavior is recorded using traces that are generated at run-time. A set of valid system behaviors is maintained. A recorded behavior can be added to the set of valid system behaviors if the run-time operation is completed successfully. Otherwise, the recorded behavior can be compared with members of the set of valid behaviors to determine differences. Such differences can be analysed to determine the cause of run-time errors.
Claims16
A method for analysing system behavior comprising the steps of:
- storing a set of predetermined system behaviors as respective records of traces relating to system execution;
- recording, during system execution, actual system behavior as a record of traces of system execution;
- and
- determining one or more differences between the recorded system behavior and at least one predetermined system behavior.
A computer program, recorded on a computer-readable medium, for analyzing system behavior, comprising computer software for performing the steps of:
- storing a set of predetermined system behaviors, each of which is represented as a trace of system execution;
- recording, during system execution, actual system behavior as a trace of system execution;
- and
- determining one or more differences between the recorded system behavior and at least one predetermined system behavior.
A computer system for analyzing system behavior, comprising computer software for performing the steps of:
- storing a set of predetermined system behaviors as respective records of traces relating to system execution;
- recording, during system execution, actual system behavior as a record of traces of system execution;
- and
- determining one or more differences between the recorded system behavior and at least one predetermined system behavior.
A computer program product comprising:
- a computer usable medium having computer readable program code means embodied therein for analyzing system behavior, the computer readable program code means in said computer program product comprising:
- computer readable program code means for causing a computer to effect storing a set of predetermined system behaviors as respective records of traces relating to system execution;
- computer readable program code means for causing a computer to effect recording, during system execution, actual system behavior as a record of traces of system execution;
- and
- computer readable program code means for causing a computer to effect determining one or more differences between the recorded system behavior and at least one predetermined system behavior.
