Abstract
The present invention relates to a process for preparing bifunctional polyisobutenes and to bifunctional polyisobutenes obtainable by means of the process and particular functionalization products thereof.

A process for preparing a bifunctional polyisobutene comprising polymerizing isobutene or an isobutene-containing monomer mixture in the presence of a Lewis acid and a compound of the formula I

- X is halogen, C1-C6-alkoxy or C1-C6-acyloxy,
- A is a radical of the formulae A.1, A.2 or A.3
- where in A.1
- m is 0 and n is 1 or 2;
- or
- m is 1 and n is 0, 1 or 2;
- and
- in A.2 and A.3
- m is 0 or 1;
- n is from 0 to 3 and
- p is 0 or 1, and
- k is from 0 to 5.
