System, method, and service for interactively presenting a summary of a web site

A system for interactively presenting summaries of collections of pages, comprising:

• a mining processor for extracting summary data from a plurality of pages on a plurality of machines;
• a build processor for sorting the summary data;
• the build processor merging the sorted summary data from at least some of the machines into a plurality of merged summary lists;
• a store for storing the merged summary lists for interactive access;
• and
• a query processor for retrieving summaries associated with a query from the merged summary lists.

A computer program product having a plurality of executable instruction codes for interactively presenting summaries of collections of pages, comprising:

• a first set of instruction codes for extracting summary data from a plurality of pages on a plurality of machines;
• a second set of instruction codes for sorting the summary data;
• a third set of instruction codes for merging the sorted summary data from at least some of the machines into a plurality of merged summary lists;
• a fourth set of instruction codes for storing the merged summary lists for interactive access;
• and
• a fifth set of instruction codes for retrieving summaries associated with a query from the merged summary lists, and for preparing a presentation of the summaries.

A service method for interactively presenting summaries of data collections, comprising:

• specifying data over which summaries are performed;
• specifying a query for which collection is retrieved and summarized;
• invoking an interactive collection summary utility program, wherein the data and the query are made available to the interactive collection summary utility program;
• and
• outputting the summary of at least some of the data collections.

A service for interactively presenting summaries of collections of pages, comprising:

• a processor for extracting summary data from a plurality of pages on a plurality of machines;
• the processor sorting the summary data;
• the processor further merging the sorted summary data from at least some of the machines into a plurality of merged summary lists;
• a store for storing the merged summary lists for interactive access;
• and
• the processor retrieving summaries associated with a query from the merged summary lists.
