Abstract
A blend of at least two polymers in combination with a drug provides a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition for a transdermal drug delivery system in which the drug is delivered from the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition and through dermis when the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition is in contact with human skin.
Claims61
A transdermal drug delivery system comprising:
- (a) a backing composite which comprises (i) at least one adhesive coating layer, and (ii) a backing layer;
- a first surface of said at least one adhesive coating layer being affixed to one surface of said backing layer;
- and
- (b) at least one carrier composition layer, a first surface of said at least one carrier composition layer being affixed to a second surface of said at least one adhesive coating layer;
- and a removeable release liner affixed to a second surface of said at least one carrier composition layer,
- wherein said at least one carrier composition layer includes a therapeutically effective amount of one or more solid crystalline drugs incorporated into the at least one carrier composition layer.

A transdermal drug delivery system comprising:
- (a) a backing composite which comprises (i) at least one adhesive coating layer comprising at least one acrylic-based polymer, and (ii) a backing layer;
- a first surface of said at least one adhesive coating layer being affixed to one surface of said backing layer;
- and
- (b) at least one carrier composition layer, a first surface of said at least one carrier composition layer comprising at least one acrylic-based polymer being affixed to a second surface of said at least one adhesive coating layer;
- and a removeable release liner affixed to a second surface of said at least one carrier composition layer,
- wherein said at least one carrier composition layer includes a therapeutically effective amount of estradiol incorporated into the at least one carrier composition layer.

A method of controlling the flux of a drug from a dermal drug delivery composition, comprising:
- (a) providing a composition comprising:
- (i) a backing layer;
- (ii) at least one adhesive coating layer, a first surface of said at least one adhesive coating layer being affixed to one surface of said backing layer;
- (iii) at least one carrier composition layer, a first surface of said at least one carrier composition layer being affixed to a second surface of said at least one adhesive coating layer;
- and (iv) a release liner affixed to a second surface of said at least one carrier composition layer, wherein said at least one carrier composition layer includes a therapeutically effective amount of one or more drugs incorporated into the at least one carrier composition layer;
- (b) selectively tailoring said adhesive coating layer by modifying the coat weight, monomeric makeup, or functionality of said adhesive coating layer.
