Abstract
Generally, systems for air and water purification using unpowered charged sorbent mediums (3) which may include layered double hydroxide (LDH) (1) compositions, lignin (2), and methods of sorbing inorganic or organic material(s) onto such mediums, including an ionic contaminants (10), cationic contaminants (11), non-ionic organic contaminants (20), and even biological agents (7) such as bacteria or viruses present in liquids or gases.
Claims68
A method of removing impurities comprising the steps of:
- establishing air;
- providing an unpowered charged sorbent medium;
- moving at least some of said air in the vicinity of said unpowered charged sorbent medium;
- attracting a biological agent to said unpowered charged sorbent medium;
- sorbing at least some of said biological agent on the surface of said unpowered charged sorbent medium;
- and
- moving said air with at least some reduction of said biological agent.

A method of removing impurities comprising the steps of:
- establishing air;
- containing an amount of a cationic composition;
- moving at least some of said air in the vicinity of said cationic composition;
- attracting a first component to said cationic composition;
- sorbing at least some of said first component on said cationic composition;
- containing an amount of an anionic composition;
- moving at least some of said air in the vicinity of said anionic composition;
- attracting a second component to said anionic composition;
- sorbing at least some of said second component on said anionic composition;
- and
- moving said air with at least some reduction of said first and second components.
