Abstract
A method for designing a screen includes receiving screen information related to a picture element divided into a number of subunits of the picture element, and determining an amount of an ink to apply to a media at a location of the picture element in response to the information. The subunits of the picture element have a higher resolution than the resolution of a printing apparatus at which the printing element will be reproduced.
Claims44
A method for implementing screen design comprising:
- designing a screen for subunits of at least one picture element;
- dividing at least one picture element into a plurality of subunits;
- analyzing the subunits of the picture element in relation to an input intensity to determine whether the subunit is enabled;
- determining a percentage of subunits of the total number of subunits in the picture element that are enabled;
- and
- designating a partial exposure for a location in the screen related to the picture element and input intensity, in response to the percentage of subunits enabled.
A method for designing a screen for a plurality of picture elements comprising:
- dividing at least one picture element into a plurality of subunits of the picture element;
- analyzing the subunits of the picture element with respect to an intensity level to determine whether the subunit is enabled;
- comparing the number of enabled subunits to the total number of subunits in the picture element;
- and
- associating a partial exposure screen pattern related to an intensity level.
A method for designing a screen comprising:
- receiving screen information related to a picture element divided into a number of subunits of the picture element, the subunits of the picture element having a higher resolution than a printing apparatus;
- and
- determining an amount of an ink to apply to a media at a location of the picture element in response to the information.
A method for printing comprising:
- exposing a photoconductive surface at a first pixel location;
- and
- partially exposing a photoconductive surface at a second pixel location to shift the center of mass of a resulting cluster spot to substantially produce a screen design for subpixels of a plurality of pixels including at least a first pixel and a second pixel.
A machine-readable medium that provides instructions that, when executed by a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:
- dividing at least one picture element into a plurality of subunits of the picture element;
- analyzing the subunits of the picture element with respect to an intensity level to determine whether the subunit is enabled;
- comparing the number of enabled subunits to the total number of subunits in the picture element;
- and
- associating a partial exposure screen pattern related to an intensity level.
A machine-readable medium that provides instructions that, when executed by a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:
- exposing a photoconductive surface at a first pixel location;
- and
- partially exposing a photoconductive surface at a second pixel location shifts the center of mass of a resulting cluster spot to substantially produce a screen design for subpixels of a plurality of pixels including at least a first pixel and a second pixel.
An apparatus for printing comprising:
- means for exposing a photoconductive surface at a first pixel location;
- and
- means for partially exposing a photoconductive surface at a second pixel location to shift the center of mass of a resulting cluster spot to substantially produce a screen design for subpixels of a plurality of pixels including at least a first pixel and a second pixel.
A method for printing comprising:
- designing a screen for a printer, the resolution associated with the screen design being greater than the fixed resolution of the printer;
- substantially producing the screen pattern by exposing a photoconductive surface at a first pixel location;
- and
- partially exposing a photoconductive surface at a second pixel location.
A method for printing comprising:
- designing a screen for a printer, the resolution associated with the screen design being greater than the fixed resolution of the printer;
- substantially producing the screen pattern by
- exposing a photoconductive surface at a first pixel location;
- and
- partially exposing a photoconductive surface at a second pixel location, wherein the partial exposure value for the second pixel location is responsive at least in part to a percentage of subpixels of at least one neighboring pixel that are enabled subpixels relative to the total number of subpixels of neighboring pixel.
