A flat display apparatus and a driving method therefor are disclosed wherein an image having a pseudo gradation is displayed and peripheral circuits for a driving method based on frame rate control can be formed integrally on an insulating substrate to assure reliable operation. In the flat display apparatus, image data are distributed into a plurality of systems in response to a variation pattern of a gradation of pixels such that variation patterns of the gradations of corresponding pixels in each system are same as each other, and the image data of the systems are outputted. Then, for each system, in response to a logic value of lower order side bit of the image data, a logic value of the signal pattern indicating the variation pattern is added to the high order side bits to modulate the image data of the systems to produce modulation data.
A flat display apparatus for displaying an image having a pseudo gradation by varying the gradation of each pixel with a variation pattern different from that of an adjacent pixel in a unit of a frame, comprising:
A driving method for a flat display apparatus wherein high order side bits of image data are modulated in response to a low order side bit or bits of the image data to produce modulation data and a plurality of pixels disposed in a matrix are driven with the modulation data such that an image having a pseudo gradation is displayed by varying the gradation of each of said pixels with a variation pattern different from that of an adjacent one of said pixels in a unit of a frame, comprising the steps of:
