Abstract
A multi-layer monofilament consisting of multiple layers that are extruded simultaneously in a single process step, having a first layer made from plastic A, a second layer, which is bonded directly to the first layer, made from plastic b, and a third layer, which is bonded directly to the second layer, made from plastic C, plastic B being a bonding agent between the two plastics A and C.
Claims12
A continuous multi-layer monofilament consisting of multiple layers that are extruded simultaneously in a single process step, having a first layer made from first plastic, a second layer, which is bonded directly to the first layer and made from a second plastic, and a third layer, which is bonded directly to the second-layer, made from a third plastic wherein the second plastic is a bonding agent for bonding the first and third together, the monofilament having the first, second and third layers lying adjacent one another across the cross section of the monofilament and uniformly over the length thereof and bounded by a continuous endless periphery.
A method of making a multilayer monofilament which comprises the steps of:
- spinning a liquefied plastic core from a spinning orifice;
- applying to said core at least one synthetic resin bonding agent to form an inner sheath on said core as said core emerges from said orifice;
- and
- applying to said inner sheath an outer sheath of a synthetic resin to which the synthetic resin of said inner sheath can bond as said core passes out of said spinning orifice.
A continuously extruded monofilament consisting of a continuous first portion consisting of at least one plastic selected from the group which consists of polyethylene, polyoxymethylene, polyphenylenesulfide, polymethylmethacrylate, polybutyleneterephthalate, polyvinylchloride, polyetheretherketone and polyethylenenaphthalate;
- a continuous second portion extending all along said first portion and bonded thereto of at least one plastic selected from the group which consists of an ethylene-vinylacetate copolymer and a methylacrylate copolymer;
- and a continuous third portion extending all along said second portion and bonded to said second portion and by said second portion to said first portion whereby said second portion is sandwiched between said first and third portions all along said monofilament, said third portion being composed of a plastic different from the plastic of said first portion and selected from the group which consists of polyethylene, polyoxymethylene, polyphenylenesulfide, polymethylmethacrylate, polybutyleneterephthalate, polyvinylchloride, polyetheretherketone and polyethylenenaphthalate.
