Abstract
The present invention is directed towards data transmission over telecommunications networks, and more specifically towards a system and method for enabling high-speed communications through the use of a composite waveform for transmitting an increased amount of data. The present invention has particular application to high-speed data transmissions over analog telephone communication networks.
Claims24
A method for transferring digital data over an analog communications network, the method comprising the steps of:
- organizing the digital data into one or more data groupings having a predetermined size;
- converting each of the data groupings to an analog waveform, whereby each of the possible data combinations in the data grouping has a unique predefined analog waveform;
- combining the analog wave forms for each of the data groupings to form a data wave;
- forming a composite wave by mixing the data wave with a carrier wave adapted for transmission on the communications network;
- transmitting the composite wave on the communications network;
- recovering the data wave from the composite wave;
- dividing the recovered data wave to reobtain the analog waveforms;
- reconverting each of the analog waveforms to the associated data grouping;
- and
- reorganizing the data groupings to obtain the digital data.
A method for transferring digital data over an analog communications network, the method comprising the steps of:
- modulating the digital data to form a data wave;
- forming a composite wave by mixing the data wave with a carrier wave adapted for transmission on the communications network;
- transmitting the composite wave on the communications network;
- recovering the data wave from the composite wave;
- and
- demodulating the data wave to reacquire the digital data.
A modem for transferring digital data over an analog communications network, the system comprising:
- a digital-to-analog converter to modulating the digital data into a data wave;
- and
- a multiplexor that forms a composite wave by mixing the data wave with a carrier wave adapted for transmission on the communications network.
A system for transferring digital data over an analog communications network, the device comprising:
- a first means for organizing the digital data into one or more data groupings having a predetermined size;
- a second means for converting each of the data groupings to an analog waveform, whereby each of the possible data combinations in the data grouping has a unique predefined analog waveform;
- a third means for combining the analog wave forms for each of the data groupings to form a data wave;
- a fourth means forming a composite wave by mixing the data wave with a carrier wave adapted for transmission on the communications network;
- and
- a sixth means for transmitting the composite wave on the communications network.
