Abstract
Disclosed herein are planctomycetes sp. which convert ammonia to nitrogen under anaerobic conditions, filtration and aquaculture systems comprising said bacteria, filtration media comprising said bacteria, and methods of filtration using said bacteria.
Claims29
A marine system comprising a recirculating filter system comprising marine planctomycetes having anammox activity.
A method of removing ammonia from a marine system comprising contacting the ammonia containing saltwater with marine planctomycetes.
An isolated marine Planctomycetes having anammox activity.
An isolated polynucleotide fragment comprising at least 6 contiguous nucleotides of SEQ ID NO:
- 3 or SEQ ID NO:
- 4.
An isolated polynucleotide which hybridizes under high stringency hybridization conditions to SEQ ID NOs. 1, 2, 3 or 4.
An isolated polynucleotide which hybridizes under high stringency hybridization conditions to at least a 6 nucleotide fragment of SEQ ID NO:
- 1 and wherein the polynucleotide is not SEQ ID NO:
- 5 or a fragment thereof.
