Abstract
A method of recording modulated data to a recording medium, wherein in recording data to the recording medium, there is employed an approach to switch a manner of selection of plural conversion tables are stored in a memory unit, where the plural conversion tables for converting data of m bits into n (m<n) bits on the basis of a kind of data recorded to the recording medium, to modulate inputted data of m bits into data of n bits by using the selected conversion table, and to record the modulated data to the recording medium.
Claims45
A recording apparatus for use with a recording medium, the apparatus comprising:
- a memory unit in which a plurality of conversion tables for converting data of m bits into data of n (m<n) bits are stored;
- a select control unit for switching a manner of selection of the plurality of conversion tables stored in the memory unit based upon a kind of data of m bits recorded to the recording medium;
- a modulation processing unit for modulating inputted data of m bits into data of n bits by using the conversion table of the plurality of conversion tables selected by the select control unit;
- and
- a recording unit for recording output data from the modulation processing unit to the recording medium.
A recording method for a recording medium comprising the steps of:
- switching, in recording data to the recording medium, a manner of selection among a plurality of conversion tables stored in a memory unit, wherein the plurality of conversion tables are for converting data of m bits into n (m<n) bits based on a kind of data to be recorded to the recording medium;
- modulating inputted data of m bits into data of n bits by using a selected conversion table selected from said plurality of conversion tables;
- and
- recording the modulated data to the recording medium.
A reproducing apparatus for a recording medium comprising:
- a head unit for reading out data from the recording medium where data of n bits is recorded;
- a memory unit in which a plurality of conversion tables for converting data of m bits into data of n (m<n) bits are stored;
- a select control unit for switching a manner of selection of from among the plurality of conversion tables stored in the memory unit based on a kind of data of n bits to be recorded to the recording medium;
- and
- a demodulation processing unit for demodulating data of n bits, based on an output signal from the head unit, into data of m bits by using a selected conversion table selected by the select control unit from among said plurality of conversion tables.
A reproducing method for a recording medium comprising the steps of:
- switching a manner of selection from among a plurality of conversion tables stored in a memory unit for use in converting data of n bits into data of m (m<n) bits based on data of n bits read out from the recording medium;
- and
- demodulating the data of n bits read out into data of m bits by using selected conversion table selected from among the plurality of conversion tables.
A data outputting method comprising the steps of:
- switching, in outputting data, a manner of selection from among a plurality of conversion tables stored in a memory unit for use in converting data of m bits into data of n (m<n) bits based on a kind of the outputted data;
- modulating the data of m bits read out into data of n bits by using a selected conversion table from among said plurality of conversion tables;
- and
- outputting the modulated data.
A data decoding method comprising the steps of:
- switching a manner of selection from among a plurality of conversion tables stored in a memory unit, where the plurality of conversion tables are for converting data of n bits, into data of m (m<n) bits in dependency upon a kind of delivered data of n bits;
- and
- demodulating the data of n bits read out into data of m bits by using a selected conversion table selected from among the plurality of conversion tables.
