Abstract

A power driver includes a motor and a spindle having a distal end thereof opposite the motor. The distal end has an axial bore formed therein. A gear assembly is disposed operatively between the motor and the spindle so that the motor rotationally drives the spindle through the gear assembly. A grip is mounted in the spindle in communication with the axial bore. A driver is mounted about the spindle in operative communication with the grip so that activation of the driver in a closing direction moves the grip radially toward the axis and activation of the driver in an opening direction moves the grip radially away from the axis.

Dependent claims

A chuck for use with a power driver having a driver housing and a motor disposed in the driver housing and having a rotatable output, said chuck comprising:

a. a spindle having a first end proximate the motor and a distal second end opposite the motor, said second end having an axial bore formed therein;
b. a plurality of jaws movably disposed with respect to said spindle and in communication with said axial bore;
c. a plurality of planetary gears mounted about said spindle operatively between the motor output and said spindle first end, so that the motor rotationally drives said spindle through said gear assembly;
and
d. a driver mounted about said spindle in operative engagement with said plurality of jaws so that activation of said driver in a closing direction moves said plurality of jaws toward an axis of said axial bore and activation of said driver in an opening direction moves said plurality of jaws away from said axis.

A chuck for use with a power driver having a driver housing and a motor disposed in the driver housing and having a rotatable output, said chuck comprising:

a. a spindle having a first end proximate the motor and a distal second end opposite the motor, said second end having an axial bore formed therein;
b. a plurality of jaws movably disposed with respect to said spindle and in communication with said axial bore;
c. a gear assembly mounted about said spindle operatively between the motor output and said spindle first end, and secured with respect to said spindle independently of said driver housing, so that the motor rotationally drives said spindle through said gear assembly;
and
d. a driver mounted about said spindle in operative engagement with said plurality of jaws so that activation of said driver in a closing direction moves said plurality of jaws toward an axis of said axial bore and activation of said driver in an opening direction moves said plurality of jaws away from said axis.
