Abstract
A method and apparatus of providing communications in a networks with dynamic topology is disclosed in which data is carried by software agents which operate autonomously and independently of global network information.

A method of routing a data carrier between a source node and a destination node in a network, said method comprising the steps of:
- moving the carrier between nodes in accordance with predetermined set of rules;
- memorising a route between a source node and a destination node;
- and
- identify other such carriers and on such detection to optimise memorised paths with the or each other carrier.

A mobile software entity arranged to move between a source node and a destination node in a network, said entity comprising instruction means operable to cause the entity to:
- move between nodes in accordance with predetermined set of rules;
- to memorise a route between a source node and a destination node;
- and
