Abstract
The present invention is directed towards the fluorination of polymeric C60 and towards the chemical and physical modifications of polymeric C60 that can be accomplished through fluorination.
Claims20
A method of fluorinating polymeric C60 comprising the steps of:
- (a) selecting a quantity of polymeric C60;
- and
- (b) exposing the polymeric C60 to a fluorinating agent to yield a fluorinated polymeric C60 product.
A product comprising:
- (a) polymeric C60;
- and
- (b) fluorine, wherein the fluorine is attached to the polymeric C60 forming a fluorinated polymeric C60 product.
A method comprising the steps of:
- (a) selecting a quantity of fluorinated polymeric C60 product;
- and
- (b) reacting the fluorinated polymeric C60 product with a nucleophilic species such that at least some of the fluorines of the fluorinated polymeric C60 product are replaced by the nucleophilic species.
A method comprising the steps of:
- (a) selecting a quantity of fluorinated polymeric C60 product;
- and
- (b) reacting the fluorinated polymeric C60 product with a reducing agent to remove at least some of the fluorine from the fluorinated polymeric C60 product.
A method comprising the steps of:
- (a) selecting a quantity of polymeric C60 product;
- and
- (b) reacting the polymeric C60 product with a fluorinating agent to yield a depolymerized C60 product, wherein the reaction step is performed at an elevated temperature.
