Process line for a flexible manufacturing system

A process line for fabricating at least first and second automotive vehicle assemblies which differ from one another from a plurality of subassemblies generated from various workpieces, said process line comprising:

• a plurality of standardized task stations for performing a work process on a workpiece, at least one of said work stations having a workpiece presenter including a movable platform and at least first and second tooling plates removably connected to said platform, said first and second tooling plates including a planar body for supporting fixture tools holding said respective first and second workpieces, and each said tooling plate including a connector mechanism to allow said planar body of said tooling plate to be removably connected with said platform, and each said tooling plate having three axis abutment system locater heels to locate said planar body with respect to said platform in a repeatable manner;
• at least first and second templates, each template comprising a defined set of standardized task stations performing a work process on a workpiece;
• a combination of templates including at least said first and second templates in a predetermined alignment to form said process line.
