Secure internet-scale eventing

An event distribution device arranged to operate in a network of a plurality of event distribution devices, comprising:

• a receiver for receiving a notification of an event;
• and
• a message sender for sending an event message to a plurality of recipient devices connected to the event distribution device.

A broker within a network that includes a plurality of event distribution devices, the broker comprising:

• a message key giver for receiving and responding to a request for a message key from one of the event distribution devices;
• and
• a reading key giver for receiving and responding to a request for a reading key from a recipient device, the reading key to be used by the recipient device to decrypt an encrypted message received from any of the event distribution elements.

A machine-readable medium having instructions stored thereon, such that when the instructions are read and executed by a processor in an event distribution device arranged to operate in a network of a plurality of event distribution devices, the processor is configured to perform:

• receiving an event message;
• and
• sending the event message to a plurality of recipient devices connected thereto.

A machine-readable medium having instructions stored thereon, such that when the instructions are read and executed by a processor in a broker within a network having a plurality of event distribution elements, the processor is configured to perform:

• receiving and responding to a request for a message key from one of the event distribution devices;
• and
• receiving and responding to a request for a reading key from a recipient device, the reading key to be used by the recipient device to decrypt an encrypted message received from any of the event distribution elements.
