Abstract
An optical communication apparatus performs wavelength division multiplexing with respect to signals of a plurality of signal transmission bands. The apparatus includes a first optical unit which effects distributed Raman amplification and has a characteristic that compensates for dispersion of a transmission path to which the optical communication apparatus is connected, with respect to at least one of the signal transmission bands.

An optical communication apparatus which performs wavelength division multiplexing with respect to signals of a plurality of signal transmission bands, comprising:
- a first optical unit which effects distributed Raman amplification and has a characteristic that compensates for dispersion of a transmission path to which said optical communication apparatus is connected, with respect to at least one of the signal transmission bands.
An optical communication system, comprising:
- a pair of optical transceiver apparatuses which transmit and receive a wavelength division multiplexing signal having a plurality of signal transmission bands;
- one or more optical relaying apparatuses which amplify and relay the wavelength division multiplexing signal;
- and
- transmission paths connecting between said optical transceiver apparatuses via said optical relaying apparatuses,
- wherein each of said optical transceiver apparatuses and said optical relaying apparatuses includes a first optical unit which effects distributed Raman amplification and has a characteristic that compensates for dispersion of a transmission path to which said optical communication apparatus is connected, with respect to at least one of the signal transmission bands.
An optical communication system, comprising:
- a transmission path of an optical fiber;
- and
- an optical communication apparatus which is connected to said transmission path, and includes a first optical unit that effects distributed Raman amplification and has a characteristic that compensates for dispersion of a transmission path to which said optical communication apparatus is connected, with respect to at least one of the signal transmission bands, wherein said transmission path is provided with a second optical unit that effects distributed Raman amplification, and has a chromatic dispersion characteristic and a dispersion slope characteristic of reverse signs relative to said transmission path.
A method of performing wavelength division multiplexing of signals of a plurality of signal transmission bands, comprising a step of compensating for dispersion of a transmission path and effecting distributed Raman amplification in at least one of the signal transmission bands.
A method of performing wavelength division multiplexing of signals of a plurality of signal transmission bands, comprising a step of compensating for accumulated dispersion of a transmission path and simultaneously effecting distributed Raman amplification in at least one of the signal transmission bands.
A method of performing wavelength division multiplexing of signals of a plurality of signal transmission bands, comprising the steps of:
- compensating for accumulated dispersion of a transmission path by an optical unit provided for the transmission path;
- and
- compensating for accumulated dispersion of the transmission path and simultaneously effecting distributed Raman amplification in at least one of the signal transmission bands by another optical unit provided in an optical communication apparatus.
