Technique for implementing a virtual private optical switched transport network using virtual private optical/TDM cross-connect technology

An article of manufacture for implementing a virtual private optical switched transport network using virtual private optical cross-connect technology, the article of manufacture comprising:

• at least one processor readable carrier;
• and
• instructions carried on the at least one carrier;
• wherein the instructions are configured to be readable from the at least one carrier by at least one processor and thereby cause the at least one processor to operate so as to:
• partition a network into a plurality of partitions;
• assign each partition to a customer;
• and
• establish a private switched network by allowing each customer to exclusively control each respectively assigned partition, wherein each partition comprises at least one virtual private optical cross connect for virtualizing at least one resource.
