Claims24
A method of protecting cells from cell death comprising the step of supplying to the cell an effective amount of composition comprising a Bax-inhibiting peptide.
A method of protecting cells from cell death comprising the steps of:
- a) designing a peptide or chemical to mimic the Bax-suppressing function of VPMLKE, VPMLK, PMLKE or PMLK, and
- b) supplying cells with an effective amount of the chemical or peptide.
An isolated peptide, wherein the peptide is VPMLKE.
An isolated peptide, wherein the peptide is VPMLK.
An isolated peptide, wherein the peptide is PMLKE.
An isolated peptide, wherein the peptide is PMLK.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising a Bax-inhibiting peptide and a pharmaceutical carrier, wherein the peptide is of the following formula:
- X1PX2LX3X4, wherein
- X1 is selected for amino acids with non-polar side chain;
- X2 is selected for amino acids with non-polar side chain;
- X3 is selected for amino acids with charged polar side chain;
- X4 is selected for amino acids with charged polar side chain;
- and
- Either X1 or X4 may be absent.
