System and method for preventing timeout of a client

System for preventing timeout, comprising:

• a first thread;
• a second thread;
• a client interface executing in said first thread for interfacing to a client;
• an application executing in said second thread;
• a task status object accessed by said application to post completion state and by said client interface responsive to a state refresh request from said client to post a state refresh response including said completion state to said client;
• and
• said state refresh response selectively including a refresh attribute instructing said client to periodically post said state refresh request.

A program storage device readable by a machine, tangibly embodying a program of instructions executable by a machine to perform method steps for preventing timeout, comprising:

• initializing an application for execution;
• initializing a client state with a refresh attribute, said refresh attribute specifying a time interval for posting state refresh requests;
• and
• responsive to said state refresh request from said client, returning to said client a refreshed application state selectively including a refresh attribute while said application is executing and not including said refresh attribute upon said application completing said execution or going into an error state.

A computer program product or computer program element for preventing timeout according to a method comprising:

• initializing an application for execution;
• initializing a client state with a refresh attribute, said refresh attribute specifying a time interval for posting state refresh requests;
• and
• responsive to said state refresh request from said client, returning to said client a refreshed application state selectively including a refresh attribute while said application is executing and not including said refresh attribute upon said application completing said execution or going into an error state.
