Abstract
The invention pertains to a tube plate made of stainless steel for exhaust heat exchangers, with punched openings to hold the tube ends of a tube bundle, wherein the openings preferably have a rectangular cross section and are arranged grid-like with a web width b. Each of the openings has a shear surface with height h produced by punching, and which is adjoined by a bevel of depth t, that is manufactured before punching, and wherein the height h is roughly the same as or smaller than the web width b.
Claims21
A stainless steel tube plate for an exhaust heat exchanger, the tube plate comprising a grid with at least two rectangular cross-section openings that are configured to hold connection ends of tubes, wherein the openings are separated by web members of a predetermined width and are formed to include a punched shear surface of a predetermined height that is no greater than the predetermined width of the web members, and wherein each opening further includes a bevel that is formed prior to the shear surface being punched and which bevel has a predetermined depth adjoining the shear surface.
An exhaust heat exchanger comprising a housing mantle, at least one stainless steel tube plate of a predetermined thickness, and a bundle of at least two tubes that are welded to openings in the tube plate by welds disposed on an exhaust side of the tube plate, wherein the tube plate further comprises:
- at least two openings of a predetermined width that are formed to include a punched shear surface of a predetermined height that is no greater than a predetermined width of web members that separate the at least two openings, and wherein each opening further includes a bevel that is formed prior to the shear surface being punched and which bevel has a predetermined depth adjoining the shear surface.
A method of cooling exhaust gases comprising the step of passing the exhaust gases through an exhaust gas heat exchanger comprised of a housing mantle, a stainless steel tube plate, and a bundle of at least two tubes that are welded to openings on an exhaust side of the tube plate, wherein the tube plate is further comprised of at least two openings of a predetermined width that are formed to include a punched shear surface of a predetermined height that is no greater than a predetermined width of web members that separate the at least two openings, and wherein each opening further includes a bevel that is formed prior to the shear surface being punched and which bevel has a predetermined depth adjoining the shear surface.
