Abstract
The present invention relates to oleate hydroxylase genes, proteins, and methods of their use. The present invention also relates to methods of using the oleate hydroxylase genes and proteins, including in their expression in transgenic organisms and in the production of hydroxylated fatty acids.
Claims29
An isolated nucleic acid sequence comprising SEQ ID NO:
- 1.
An isolated nucleic acid sequence encoding SEQ ID NO:
- 2.
A purified protein comprising sequence SEQ ID NO:
- 2.
A method for altering the phenotype of a plant comprising:
- a) providing:
- i) a vector comprising a nucleic acid sequence encoding a protein, where the nucleic acid sequence is selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:
- 1 and a nucleic acid sequence which encodes SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- ii) a plant or a plant tissue or a plant cell;
- b) transfecting the plant or plant tissue or plant cell with the vector under conditions such that the protein is expressed in a plant obtained from the plant or plant tissue or plant cell.

A method for altering the phenotype of a plant comprising:
- a) providing:
- i) a vector comprising an antisense sequence, corresponding to a nucleic acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:
- 1 and a nucleic acid sequence which encodes SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- ii) a plant or a plant tissue or a plant cell;
- b) transfecting said plant or plant tissue or plant cell with said vector under conditions such that said antisense sequence is expressed in a plant obtained from the plant or plant tissue or plant cell and wherein the activity of an oleate hydroxylase is down-regulated as compared to wild-type.
