Methodology for portable wireless devices allowing autonomous roaming across multiple cellular air interface standards and frequencies

A telecommunications system comprising:

• a plurality of autonomous telecommunication networks operable to provide two-way telecommunication service for subscriber unit radios within one or more predetermined geographic areas;
• a controller configured to select blocks of telecommunication resources including one or more of
• frequency band of one or more of the autonomous telecommunication networks,
• call time duration of one or more of the autonomous telecommunication networks,
• base station radio equipment of one or more of the autonomous telecommunication networks, and
• an air interface standard used by one or more of the autonomous telecommunication networks.

A telecommunication method comprising:

• identifying assignable wireless telecommunication resources of a plurality of wireless telecommunication service providers;
• identifying a subscriber requirement for telecommunication resources;
• verifying configurable subscriber equipment of the subscriber and configurable service provider equipment of one of the plurality of wireless telecommunication service providers suitable for two-way wireless communication;
• allocating at least a portion of the assignable wireless telecommunication resources for use in satisfaction of the subscriber requirement.
