A system for generating a character thumbnail sequence includes a video-receiving module, a decoding module, a video-extracting module and a character-thumbnail-sequence-generating module. The video-receiving module receives video source data. The decoding module decodes video source data into video data. The video-extracting module extracts at least one key frame from the video data according to a character-image extraction guide. The character-thumbnail-sequence-generating module generates a thumbnail sequence according to the extracted key frame.
