Abstract
An active matrix liquid crystal display device with a transverse electric field type with low power and cost as well as improved display quality such as a large visual field angle and high contrast and brightness. The active matrix type liquid crystal display device of a transverse electric field system is comprised of two common electrodes running in parallel with one another in each pixel wherein the common electrodes are separated from one another and respectively provided with different voltages.
Claims27
An active matrix type liquid crystal display device in a transverse electric field system comprising:
- two common electrodes running in parallel with one another in each pixel wherein the common electrodes are separated from one another and respectively provided with different voltages.
An active matrix type liquid crystal display device in a transverse electric field system comprising:
- a color filter substrate having a color filter on one surface and a transparent conductive layer on a surface opposite to the color filter;
- and
- an active matrix substrate having common electrodes on a surface facing the color filter for applying signal voltage to drive pixels;
- wherein the transparent conductive layer is set to an earth potential;
- and
- wherein an average voltage of signal voltages applied to the common electrodes is set to the earth potential or a positive voltage closest to the earth potential.
An active matrix type liquid crystal display device in a transverse electric field system comprising:
- a color filter substrate having a color filter on one surface and a transparent conductive layer on a surface opposite to the color filter;
- and
- an active matrix substrate having video signal lines on a surface facing the color filter for applying signal voltage to drive pixels;
- wherein the transparent conductive layer is set to an earth potential;
- and
- wherein an average voltage of signal voltages applied to the video signal lines is set to the earth potential or a positive voltage closest to the earth potential.
