Cartridge filter element with housing seal retainer

A filter cartridge for filtering fluid, comprising:

• a filter media constructed and arranged to filter the fluid, said filter media having a central passage defined therein between first and second ends of said filter media;
• a first endplate provided on said first end of said filter media, said first endplate having a central opening aligned with said central passage, said first endplate having one or more peripheral openings defined therein around said central opening;
• a separate seal retainer attached to said first endplate, said retainer having an outer body portion and a concentric inner body portion extending from said outer body portion, said outer body portion having a first outwardly opening channel, said inner body portion having a second outwardly opening channel defined therein;
• an outer seal provided in said first channel;
• an inner seal provided in said second channel;
• and
• a second endplate having a tube extending within said passage of said filter media, said tube having one or more fluid passage apertures defined at one end of said tube proximal said first endplate, wherein said apertures and said first endplate define one or more fluid openings.

A filter cartridge, comprising:

• a cylindrical filter media constructed and arranged to filter fluid, said filter media having a central passage defined therein between first and second ends of said filter media;
• a first endplate provided on said first end of said filter media, said first endplate having a central opening aligned with said central passage, said first endplate having one or more peripheral openings defined therein around said central opening;
• a separate seal retainer attached to said first endplate, said retainer having an outer body portion and a concentric inner body portion extending from said outer body portion, said outer body portion being constructed and arranged to retain an outer seal, said inner body portion being constructed and arranged to retain an inner seal;
• a second endplate having a tube extending from said second endplate within said central passage of said filter media, said tube having one or more fluid passage apertures defined at one end of said tube proximal said first endplate, said tube having an inside surface with a inwardly extending lip extending from said inside surface;
• and
• a center post gasket coupled to said lip, said center post gasket having a seal surface constructed and arranged to seal against a center post of a filter housing, said seal surface including an upper conical surface portion, a lower conical surface portion, and a rounded surface portion provided between said upper and lower conical surface portions.
