Method and apparatus for a multimedia application specific processor

An apparatus for performing a multimedia function, the apparatus comprising:

• a data port for receiving input data;
• a shared memory coupled to the data port for storing the input data;
• and
• a multimedia syntax coupled to the shared memory for processing the input data based on a configuration information, the multimedia syntax corresponding to the multimedia function.

A system comprising:

• a radio communication unit for interfacing to a communication signal;
• a communication interface module coupled to the radio communication unit for providing a media source;
• and
• a media processor coupled to the communication interface module for performing a multimedia function corresponding to the media source, the media processor comprising:
• a data port for receiving input data;
• a shared memory coupled to the data port for storing the input data;
• and
• a multimedia syntax coupled to the shared memory for processing the input data based on a configuration information,
• the multimedia syntax corresponding to the multimedia function.
