Abstract
The present invention relates to a compressed metal oxide composition particle comprised of metal oxide and an organic binder, with the binder preferably being a water insoluble cellulose composition. The present invention also relates to a method for forming a compressed metal oxide composition particle, with the preferred method including compressing a metal oxide and binder mixture to form compressed metal oxide composition particles having a final particle size of between about 0.1 mm and about 200 mm.

- (a) mixing an amount of metal oxide having a particle size ranging between 0.1 microns and 100 microns and of the formula MexOy with an amount of binder to form a metal oxide mixture, wherein Me is selected from the group consisting of periodic table row 4, 5, 6, or 7 metals, x is equal to between 1 and 3, and y is equal to between 1 and 4 and hydrated forms of said metal oxide;
- (b) compressing said metal oxide mixture to produce a compressed metal oxide composition;
- (c) breaking apart said compressed metal oxide composition to produce compressed metal oxide composition particles;
- and,
- (d) screening said compressed metal oxide composition particles so that at least 90% of said particles have a final particle size equal to between about 0.1 mm and about 200 mm.
A method for removing sulfur compounds from fluids, comprising:
- (a) forming compressed metal oxide composition particles from metal oxide and a binder mixed to form a metal oxide mixture, whereby said metal oxide mixture is passed through a compactor to form a compressed metal oxide composition, said compressed metal oxide composition is broken apart to form said compressed metal oxide composition particles, said particles are then screened so that at least 90% of said particles have a final particle size equal to between about 0.1 mm and about 200 mm from;
- and,
- (b) passing the fluids over said compressed metal oxide composition particles, thereby causing removal of the sulfur compounds from the fluids.
A method for removing sulfur compounds from fluids, comprising:
- (a) forming compressed metal oxide composition particles from metal oxide and a binder mixed to form a metal oxide mixture, whereby said metal oxide mixture is extruded to form a compressed metal oxide composition, said compressed metal oxide composition is then broken apart to form said compressed metal oxide composition particles said particles are dried at a temperature ranging between ambient and less than 150° C., said particles are marumerized, said particles are then screened so that at least 90% of said particles have a final particle size equal to between about 0.1 mm and about 200 mm from other particles;
- and,
- (b) passing the fluids over said compressed metal oxide composition particles, thereby causing removal of the sulfur compounds from the fluids.
