Abstract
The use of isolated or purified stilbenoid compounds including longistyline A-2-carboxylic acid as a dietary supplement to mammals suffering from elevated triglyceride levels is described. The invention also relates to the use of such stibenoid compounds in combination with other hypotriglyceridemic agents.
Claims21
A dietary supplement comprising a carrier and a hypotriglyceridemically effective amount of an isolated compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, having the formula:
- 20
- wherein,
- A is a bond selected from the group consisting of a single bond and a double bond in trans conformation;
- R1 and R3 are independently selected from the group consisting of H, OH, and C1-6alkoxy;
- R2 and R4 are independently selected from the group consisting of H, C1-11alkyl, C2-11alkenyl, and C2-11alkynyl;
- R5 and R6 are independently selected from the group consisting of H, OH, and C1-6alkoxy.
A dietary supplement comprising a carrier and a hypotriglyceridemically effective amount of an isolated compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, having the formula:
- 21
- wherein,
- R2 and R4 are selected from the group consisting of H, C1-11 alkyl and C2-11 alkenyl;
- and either R2 or R4 are H;
- and
- R3 is C1-6 alkoxy.
A method of supplementing the diet a mammal suffering from elevated blood triglyceride levels comprising administering a dietary supplement comprising a carrier and a hypotriglyceridemically effective amount of an isolated compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, having the formula:
- 22
- wherein,
- A is a bond selected from the group consisting of a single bond and a double bond in trans conformation;
- R1 and R3 are independently selected from the group consisting of H, OH, and C1-6alkoxy;
- R2 and R4 are independently selected from the group consisting of H, C1-11alkyl, C2-11alkenyl, and C2-11alkynyl;
- and
- R5 and R6 are independently selected from the group consisting of H, OH, and C1-6alkoxy.
