Computer integrated personal environment system

A personal work area control system for a work space in a building, the system comprising:

• a housing containing a variable flow control device which regulates air flowing within the work space in response to a first signal;
• controller operatively connected to control the flow control device and connected to a communication link to receive operational commands for the variable flow control device;
• a personal computer within the work space and connected to the communication link, wherein the personal computer is programmed to execute a graphical user interface program which displays a control panel on a screen of the personal computer wherein a worker is able to alter an environmental parameter setting indicated on the control panel, the graphical user interface program transmitting data representing the environmental parameter setting to the controller via the computer network;
• and
• wherein the controller responds to the data from the personal computer by producing the first signal which alters the flow control device.

A personal work area control system for a work space in a building wherein a personal computer in located in the work space, the system comprising:

• a housing containing a flow control device which regulates air flowing within the work space in response to a control signal;
• controller operatively connected to control the flow control device and connected to a computer network which interconnects computers and printers within the building;
• a user operable control panel connected to the controller and producing signals to which the controller responds by producing the control signal which alters the flow control device;
• and
• an air diffuser attached to the personal computer and connected to receive air from the flow control device.
