A microparticulate composition comprises a biodegradable synthetic polymer microparticle, a proteinaceous antigen and an enteric polymer, wherein the enteric polymer forms a coating layer on a surface of the microparticle.

A process for preparing a microparticulate composition comprising polymeric microparticles formed from a biodegradable synthetic polymer, a proteinaceous antigen carried by the microparticles and a coating of an enteric polymer on a surface of the microparticles, which process comprises forming the polymeric microparticles in the presence of the antigen and the enteric polymer.
