Abstract
A silicone rubber windshield wiper blade 10 having a coefficient of friction of 0.2 formed by embedding a tetrafluoroethylene polymer 43 such as Teflon plastic into a surface region of the blade 10.
Claims10
In a silicone rubber windshield wiper blade having a body portion and basic blade portion with a surface region to bear against a windshield surface, the combination of a layer of solid tetrafluoroethylene polymer embedded in the basic blade portion surface region and exposed for wiping contact with a windshield surface.
The method of producing a silicone rubber windshield wiper blade having coefficient of friction approximately 0.2 which comprises the steps of shaping a silicone rubber body, applying a layer of tetrafluoroethylene polymer to the body and pressing the assembly together and thereby forcing the polymer layer into the body surface to a depth of at least 0.001 mil.
The method of producing a silicone rubber windshield wiper blade which comprises the steps of providing a mold, permanently coating a portion of the interior surface of the mold with tetrafluoroethylene polymer the said permanent coating shaping a silicone rubber body to elevated temperature and pressure and thereby curing the polymer overcoating and forcing the resulting overcoating into the body surface to a depth of 0.005 mil, and finally relieving the pressure and removing the tetrafluoroethylene coated body from contact with the permanent tetrafluoroethylene coating on the mold interior surface.
