Abstract
A method of operating a mobile station in a WCDMA system. The mobile station has a rake receiver (90) having a plurality of demodulator fingers (71,72,73). One of the demodulator fingers monitors a neighbouring cell and other demodulator fingers monitor an assigned cell. When the mobile station is in an idle mode, if it is stationary, activity of the demodulator is reduced by switching off the demodulator finger which monitors the neighbouring cell.
Claims30
A method of operating a mobile station comprising the steps of:
- providing the mobile station with a demodulator;
- putting the mobile station into an idle mode;
- measuring a currently assigned channel;
- and
- detecting whether the mobile station is stationary;
- and
- reducing the activity of the demodulator if the mobile station is stationary.
A mobile station comprising a receiver having a radio frequency block and a demodulator, means for putting the mobile station into an idle mode, means for measuring a currently assigned channel, a motion indicator for detecting if the mobile station is stationary and an activity controller for reducing the activity of the demodulator if the mobile station is stationary.
