Abstract
A method for diagnosing Crohn's disease is described. The method assays for the presence of an immune response to S. mutans antigens in a sample from a patient in need of such diagnosis.

A method of diagnosing Crohn's disease in a patient in need of such diagnosis, wherein said method comprises detecting an immune response to S. mutans or an S. mutans antigen in a sample from said patient, and diagnosing said disease on the basis of the presence or absence of said response.
