Methods and systems for altering user equipment capability on network slices

A user equipment (UE) comprising:

• a processor,
• a network interface, and
• a memory storing instructions executed by the processor to perform actions including:
• receiving network slices in a cellular network environment, the network slices corresponding to services requested by a user;
• receiving a first enquiry for capabilities from a base station;
• transmitting information associated with capabilities on a per-slice basis to the base station, with first information associated with first capabilities transmitted for a first network slice of the network slices and second information associated with second capabilities transmitted for a second network slice of the network slices, with the first capabilities and the second capabilities differing from each other;
• monitoring real-time conditions associated with the UE;
• determining, based at least in part on the real-time conditions, that a condition associated with the UE has been triggered;
• and
• preemptively transmitting, based at least in part on the condition being triggered, to the base station, without awaiting a second enquiry from the base station, and without requesting to receive the second enquiry, updated capabilities for the first network slice and the second network slice.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing computer-readable instructions, that when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform actions comprising:

• establishing, on a user equipment (UE), network slices in a cellular network environment, the network slices corresponding to services requested by a user;
• receiving, at the UE, a first enquiry for capabilities from a base station;
• transmitting, by the UE, information associated with capabilities on a per-slice basis to the base station, with first information associated with first capabilities transmitted for a first network slice of the network slices and second information associated with second capabilities transmitted for a second network slice of the network slices, with the first capabilities and the second capabilities differing from each other;
• monitoring, at the UE, real-time conditions associated with the UE;
• determining, by the UE and based at least in part on the real-time conditions, that a condition associated with the UE has been triggered;
• and
• preemptively transmitting, based at least in part on the condition being triggered, from the UE to the base station, without awaiting a second enquiry from the base station, and without requesting to receive the second enquiry, updated capabilities for the first network slice and the second network slice.
