Abstract
Provided is an image encoding/decoding method. The method may include determining at least one intra prediction mode for a current block; and on the basis of the at least one intra prediction mode, performing intra prediction on the current block. Here, the at least one intra prediction mode may be determined via a histogram derived from a reference region of the current block.

A method of decoding an image, the method comprising:
- constructing a histogram of a current block based on reconstruction samples included in a reference region of the current block;
- deriving a plurality of intra prediction modes using the histogram of the current block;
- and
- based on the plurality of intra prediction modes, performing an intra prediction on the current block,
- wherein the histogram is constructed by accumulating amplitudes for respective intra prediction modes,
- wherein an amplitude is derived based on a horizontal gradient and a vertical gradient of a reference sample in the reference region, and
- wherein a size of a filter used to obtain the horizontal gradient and the vertical gradient of the reference samples is adaptively determined as one of 3×3 or 2×2 according to a size of the current block.

A device for transmitting compressed video data, the device comprising:
- a processor to obtain the compressed video data;

- a transmitter to transmit the compressed video data,
- wherein to obtain the compressed video data, the processor is configured to:

- derive a plurality of intra prediction modes using the histogram of the current block;
- and
- based on the plurality of intra prediction modes, perform an intra prediction on the current block,
