Distributed configuration of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces

Wireless circuitry comprising:

• phase shifters configured to be coupled to a set of antenna elements and configured to control the set of antenna elements to redirect wireless signals between a first electronic device and a second electronic device while the phase shifters implement phase settings;
• a first set of one or more processors configured to generate a value;
• a bus system;
• and
• a second set of one or more processors communicatively coupled to the first set of one or more processors and the phase shifters over the bus system, wherein
• the second set of one or more processors is configured to set the phase shifters to implement the phase settings based on the value,
• the second set of one or more processors includes a first register, a second register communicatively coupled to a first subset of the phase shifters, and a third register communicatively coupled to a second subset of the phase shifters,
• the first register is configured to load a first subset of the phase settings onto the second register, and
• the first register is configured to load a second subset of the phase settings onto the third register.

A method of operating a first electronic device to redirect wireless signals between a second electronic device and a third electronic device, the method comprising:

• outputting, using a first processor, a value;
• outputting, using a second processor, phase settings based on the value;
• storing, at a first register, the phase settings;
• storing, at a second register communicatively coupled to a first set of phase shifters, a first subset of the phase settings;
• storing, at a third register communicatively coupled to a second set of phase shifters, a second subset of the phase settings;
• and
• redirecting the wireless signals while the first set of phase shifters implement the first subset of the phase settings and the second set of phase shifters implement the second subset of the phase settings.
