Abstract
Described herein are systems and methods for secure and usable authentication techniques for drone delivery that leverages biometric information of faces, unlike traditional biometrics-based approaches, it does not need users to enroll their biometric information and is impervious to common drone attacks.
Claims17
An authentication technique for drone-user interaction comprising:
- at least one drone configured to remain at a distance from the user during authentication and to capture the at least one drone video of the user while the user simultaneously captures the at least one user video;
- at least one user with at least one device comprising a smartphone that captures the at least one user video as session-specific ground truth for authenticating the drone without requiring prior enrollment of the user's biometric information;
- wherein the at least one drone and the at least one device take at least one drone video and at least one user video of the user substantially simultaneously during a same authentication session after negotiating a start time for recording;
- encoding at least one frame of the at least one drone video and at least one frame of the at least one user video to form at least one first embedding sequence and at least one second embedding sequence of at least one aspect of the user by encoding corresponding frames from the at least one drone video and the at least one user video into timestamp-associated face embeddings arranged in temporal order;
- comparing the at least one first embedding and the at least one second embedding to determine at least one distance value, wherein correlation of the at least one distance value derived from the at least one drone video and the at least one user video authenticate the at least one drone and at least one user with one another by determining a sequence of pairwise distance values between temporally corresponding embeddings from the at least one drone video and the at least one user video and authenticating only when the sequence remains consistently low over time.

An authentication method for device-user interaction comprising:
- at least one device having a camera and configured to capture a device video of the user while the user simultaneously captures a user video on a smartphone;
- at least one user with at least one smartphone that provides session ground truth for the user's live facial expression without requiring prior enrollment of the user's biometric information;
- wherein the at least one device and the at least one smartphone take at least one device video and at least one user video of the user substantially simultaneously during a same authentication session;
- encoding at least one frame of the at least one device video and at least one frame of the at least one user video to form at least one first embedding sequence and at least one second embedding sequence of at least one aspect of the user by encoding corresponding frames into timestamp-associated face embeddings arranged in temporal order;
- comparing the at least one first embedding and the at least one second embedding to determine at least one distance value, authenticating the at least one device and the at least one user with one another based on correlation of the at least one distance value derived from the at least one device video and the at least one user video.
