Image-based tire groove depth estimation device

An estimation system for a vehicle, comprising:

• a user terminal;
• and
• an estimation device, wherein:
• the user terminal comprises a memory, a processor coupled to the memory, and an imaging unit;
• and
• the estimation device comprises a memory, and a processor coupled to the memory, a depth estimation model and a depth estimation equation are stored in the memory, the depth estimation model comprises a plurality of sets of tire tread images and depths of grooves of the tire, and the depth estimation equation estimates a depth of a groove of a tire based on a travel history of the vehicle,
• wherein:
• the processor of the estimation device is configured to:
• output an instruction to the user terminal so as to acquire an image of a tread of a tire that is installed at the vehicle, and send the acquired image to the estimation device;
• estimate a depth of a groove of the acquired image of the tire tread by
• the depth estimation model;
• acquire a travel history of the vehicle;
• estimate a depth of the groove of the tire based on the travel history by the depth estimation equation;
• in a case in which a difference between the depth of the groove estimated based on the acquired image and the depth of the groove estimated based on the travel history is greater than or equal to a predetermined difference, render output to the user terminal to actually measure the depth of the groove and send the measured depth to the estimation device;
• and
• re-learn the depth estimation model using an additional set of the acquired image and the actual measurement value of the depth of the groove as training data.
