Abstract

One aspect of the instant application describes a method, a computer system, and a computer-readable medium which facilitate flexible and dynamic management of feature licenses on a network device. During operation, a network device supporting one or more features can monitor a configuration state associated with the network device. In response to detecting an update of the configuration state, the network device can determine whether a state of a feature is affected. In response to determining that the state of the feature is affected, the network device can determine whether to request issuance or release of a license corresponding to the affected feature and communicate by the network device with a cloud-based license-management platform to request the issuance or release of the license.

Dependent claims

A method comprising:

monitoring, by a network device supporting one or more features, a configuration state associated with the network device;
in response to detecting an update of the configuration state, determining whether a feature is activated or deactivated;
in response to determining that the feature is activated, requesting issuance of a license corresponding to the activated feature by communicating with a cloud-based license-management platform;
in response to receiving an issued license corresponding to the activated feature, running the activated feature in a normal mode;
in response to receiving a license-pending notification corresponding to the activated feature, running the activated feature in an honor-based mode;
and
in response to determining that the feature is deactivated, requesting release of a license corresponding to the deactivated feature by communicating with the cloud-based license-management platform.
