Abstract
Utilizing data transfer estimates for active management of a storage environment, including: determining an estimated data transfer time from a source storage environment to a destination storage environment; determining whether the estimated data transfer time exceeds a threshold; and performing, in response to the estimated data transfer time exceeding the threshold, a remedial action associated with data transfers between the source storage environment and the destination storage environment.
Claims20
A method implemented by a computing device having a computer processor and a memory, the method comprising:
- determining, for a dataset to be transferred from a source storage environment to a destination storage environment, an amount of additional portions of data associated with the dataset that is expected to be received at the source storage environment and transferred to the destination storage environment;
- determining a storage management action that will reduce an estimated replication time to transfer the dataset from the source storage environment to the destination storage environment, wherein the estimated replication time is based, at least in part, on an amount of source data that has not yet been replicated to the destination storage environment and the amount of additional portions of data;
- and
- automatically executing, by the computing device, the storage management action to reduce the estimated replication time to transfer the dataset.
An apparatus comprising:
- a memory;
- and
- a processor, operatively coupled to the memory, configured to:
- determine, for a dataset to be transferred from a source storage environment to a destination storage environment, an amount of additional portions of data associated with the dataset that is expected to be received at the source storage environment and transferred to the destination storage environment;
- determine a storage management action that will reduce an estimated replication time to transfer the dataset from the source storage environment to the destination storage environment, wherein the estimated replication time is based, at least in part, on an amount of source data that has not yet been replicated to the destination storage environment and the amount of additional portions of data;
- and
- automatically execute the storage management action to reduce the estimated replication time to transfer the dataset.
Non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing instructions, which when executed, cause a processing device to:
- determine, for a dataset to be transferred from a source storage environment to a destination storage environment, an amount of additional portions of data associated with the dataset that is expected to be received at the source storage environment and transferred to the destination storage environment;
- determine a storage management action that will reduce an estimated replication time to transfer the dataset from the source storage environment to the destination storage environment, wherein the estimated replication time is based, at least in part, on an amount of source data that has not yet been replicated to the destination storage environment and the amount of additional portions of data;
- and
- automatically execute the storage management action to reduce the estimated replication time to transfer the dataset.
