Abstract
Exemplary embodiments are provided of HVAC control assemblies (e.g., aftermarket universal replacement controls, etc.) and corresponding methods of configuring pinout of connectors for HVAC control assemblies.
Claims20
An HVAC control assembly comprising:
- an HVAC control board including a plurality of relays and a plurality of interface connectors, each interface connector having connector pins configured to mate directly with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) wiring harnesses having different pinout configurations, each relay including at least a common contact selectively connectable to a normally-open contact or a normally-closed contact;
- and
- an HVAC controller configured to:
- electrically couple a given connector pin, via the common contact of a respective relay, selectively to a first internal HVAC control signal or a second internal HVAC control signal corresponding to different OEM pinout configurations;
- automatically determine which OEM wiring harness is connected to a selected interface connector by sensing at least one electrical characteristic of a connected load or input;
- and
- automatically control the relays to physically reconfigure signal routing to the connector pins to match the determined OEM pinout configuration;
- wherein for at least one interface connector pin, the common contact of a corresponding relay is directly electrically connected to the interface connector pin, and the normally-open contact and the normally-closed contact of the relay are connected to the first internal HVAC control signal and the second internal HVAC control signal respectively.

An HVAC control assembly comprising:
- an HVAC control board including a plurality of relays and a plurality of interface connectors, each interface connector having connector pins configured to mate directly with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) wiring harnesses having different pinout configurations, each relay including at least a common contact selectively connectable to a normally-open contact or a normally-closed contact;
- and
- an HVAC controller configured to:
- electrically couple a given connector pin, via the common contact of a respective relay, selectively to a first internal HVAC control signal or a second internal HVAC control signal corresponding to different OEM pinout configurations;
- automatically determine which OEM wiring harness is connected to a selected interface connector by sensing at least one electrical characteristic of a connected load or input;
- and
- automatically control the relays to physically reconfigure signal routing to the connector pins to match the determined OEM pinout configuration;
- wherein automatically determining which OEM wiring harness is connected includes detecting a response of a pressure switch input to actuation of an inducer output.

- an HVAC control board including a plurality of relays and a plurality of interface connectors, each interface connector having connector pins configured to mate directly with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) wiring harnesses having different pinout configurations, each relay including at least a common contact selectively connectable to a normally-open contact or a normally-closed contact;
- and
- an HVAC controller configured to:
- electrically couple a given connector pin, via the common contact of a respective relay, selectively to a first internal HVAC control signal or a second internal HVAC control signal corresponding to different OEM pinout configurations;
- automatically determine which OEM wiring harness is connected to a selected interface connector by sensing at least one electrical characteristic of a connected load or input;
- and
- automatically control the relays to physically reconfigure signal routing to the connector pins to match the determined OEM pinout configuration;
- wherein the interface connectors are configured to receive OEM wiring harnesses without use of adapter harnesses or rewiring of connector terminals.
