An electrified vehicle includes an electric machine powered by a battery to provide torque to vehicle wheels, a heater powered by the battery, a cooling circuit that circulates cooling fluid through the electric machine, the battery, the heater, and a heat exchanger, a heat pump in fluid communication with the heat exchanger, and a controller programmed to, responsive to a heating request without a stored heating source preference: when external electric power is available and state of charge (SOC) of the battery is above an associated threshold, operate the heater to heat the cooling fluid; and operate the heat pump to heat the cooling fluid otherwise. The heating source preference may be input via a human-machine interface and may bias the heating source selection for quiet operation using the electric heater as a preferred primary heating source or more efficient operation using the heat pump as the preferred primary source.
An electrified vehicle comprising:
A method for controlling an electrified vehicle having a human-machine interface configured to store a heating source user preference, a battery powering an electric machine to provide torque to vehicle wheels, an electric heater powered by the battery, and a heat pump, the method comprising, by a vehicle controller:
A system for an electrified vehicle, the system comprising:
