Method for operating a hand-held power tool

A method of operating a hand-held power tool which includes an electric motor, comprising:

• selecting an application class of a plurality of application classes based on at least one hardness property and/or strength property of a substrate in which a screwdriving operation is to be carried out;
• selecting an operation mode from an operation mode group comprising a first operation mode and a second operation mode, based at least in part on the application class;
• and
• performing a machine learning phase using at least two example applications to learn application classes of the plurality of application classes,
• wherein the first operation mode has a first maximum torque level delivered by the hand-held power tool per application class of the plurality of application classes and the second of operation mode has a second maximum torque level delivered by the hand-held power tool per application class of the plurality of application classes, the second maximum torque level per application class different from the first maximum torque level delivered by the hand-held power tool per application class,
• wherein selecting the application class is at least partially automatic and comprises (i) ascertaining a signal of an operating variable of the electric motor, and (ii) selecting the application class based on the signal of the operating variable,
• wherein the at least two example applications cover different application classes of the plurality of application classes, and
• wherein the application class is selected based on the application classes of the plurality of application classes learned in the machine learning phase.

A hand-held power tool comprising:

• an electric motor;
• a measured value transducer of an operating variable of the electric motor;
• and
• a processor configured to:
• operate the electric motor according to an application class of a plurality of application classes based on at least one hardness property and/or strength property of a substrate in which a screwdriving operation is to be carried out;
• and
• operate the electric motor according to an operation mode from an operation mode group comprising a first operation mode and a second operation mode, based at least in part on the application class,
• wherein the first operation mode has a first maximum torque level delivered by the hand-held power tool per application class of the plurality of application classes and the second of operation mode has a second maximum torque level delivered by the hand-held power tool per application class of the plurality of application classes, the second maximum torque level per application class different from the first maximum torque level delivered by the hand-held power tool per application class,
• wherein the processor automatically selects the application class by (i) ascertaining a signal of an operating variable of the electric motor, and (ii) selecting the application class based on the signal of the operating variable, and
• wherein the processor is further configured to (i) provide at least one model signal waveform, the at least one model signal waveform is assignable to an application class of the plurality of application classes, (ii) compare the signal of the operating variable to the at least one model signal waveform to ascertain a match score, and (iii) select the application class based on the match score.
