Abstract
In some examples, an apparatus includes an orthodontic housing enabling conversion of an appliance such as a Herbst appliance used in advancement of the mandible of a patient from a horizontal component to a vertical component. This vertical orientation allows for many advantages in the use of the appliance.
Claims15
An orthodontic apparatus comprising:
- an arm configured to extend in a mouth of a patient, the arm comprising a sleeve and a rod;
- an opening formed in a first end of the arm;
- a cylinder;
- a base extending from the cylinder in the form of a saddle, the base further comprising a hole configured to receive an archwire for orthodontia;
- an extending arm attachable to a tooth in an arch of the mouth of the patient;
- such that the base straddles the extending arm;
- and
- a screw retaining the opening of the arm on the cylinder such that when the base straddles the extending arm, the cylinder extends in a coronal apical direction.
