Abstract
Guides for guiding a tool into a medullary canal of a bone. The guides can include a base and a guide feature. The base can include a first surface configured to contact the bone and a second surface opposite the first surface. The guide feature can be disposed to guide the tool along a central portion of the medullary canal.
Claims28
A guide for guiding a tool into a medullary canal of a diaphysis of a bone having a resected surface, the guide comprising:
- a base comprising a first portion having a first surface and a second portion having a second surface, the first surface sized and configured to be disposed in a metaphysis of the bone, and the second surface disposed on an opposite side of the base as the first surface;
- a guide feature extending from at least a portion of the second surface of the second portion of the base in a direction non-orthogonal to the second surface and defining a lumen sized and configured to guide the tool along a central portion of the medullary canal of the diaphysis of the bone when the second portion of the base of the guide contacts the resected surface of the metaphysis of the bone;
- and
- a slot member extending from the second surface of the second portion of the base and in a direction proximally away from the first surface of the base, such that the slot member is disposed proximally above the first surface, the slot member defining one or more passageways disposed about a periphery of the base, each of the one or more passageways configured to receive an osteotome.
A guide for guiding a tool into a medullary canal of a bone, the guide comprising:
- a base comprising:
- a first surface configured to be disposed within a reamed metaphysis and contact a planar surface of the bone, and a second surface disposed on an opposite side of the base as the first surface, the second surface extending radially outwardly of the first surface such that the second surface is configured to function as a depth stop;
- a guide feature extending from at least a portion of the second surface of the base in a direction away from the first surface of the base and defining a lumen sized and configured to guide a tool along a central portion of a medullary canal of the bone when the first surface is disposed within the reamed metaphysis, the guide feature comprising a sidewall and having a distal opening and a proximal opening;
- and
- a handle attachment feature extending from a central region of the second surface, the handle attachment feature comprising an interface configured to releasably engage a handle.
A guide for guiding a tool into a medullary canal of a diaphysis of a bone, the guide comprising:
- a base comprising a first surface configured to contact the bone and a second surface opposite the first surface;
- a guide feature disposed to guide a tool along a central portion of the medullary canal of the diaphysis of the bone;
- and
- a cutting feature for removing additional bone, the cutting feature including a plurality of rasp teeth arranged along at least a portion of a periphery of the base between the first portion of the base and the second portion of the base.
