Bimodal data exploration tool for interactive text and visual analysis

A computing device, comprising:

• one or more processors;
• and
• memory coupled to the one or more processors, the memory storing one or more programs for execution by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for:
• displaying, via a user interface, first data describing a dataset, wherein the first data has a first modality and a first portion of the first data is encoded as a data object that includes metadata information having (i) a semantic level of the first portion of the first data, (ii) a data value of the dataset, and (iii) a data field of the dataset;
• receiving a first user interaction with a first affordance that is displayed on the user interface, the first user interaction further specifying the data object;
• and
• in response to receiving the first user interaction with the first affordance:
• retrieving the metadata information corresponding to the data object;
• generating second data describing the dataset according to the retrieved metadata information, the generating includes assigning a semantic level to the second data according to a modality of the second data, wherein the second data has a second modality and the semantic level of the second data is different from the semantic level of the first portion of the first data;
• and
• concurrently displaying, on the user interface, the first data and the second data describing the dataset.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing one or more programs, the one or more programs comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a computing device, cause the computing device to perform operations comprising:

• displaying, via a user interface, first data describing a dataset, wherein the first data has a first modality and a first portion of the first data is encoded as a data object that includes metadata information having (i) a semantic level of the first portion of the first data, (ii) a data value of the dataset, and (iii) a data field of the dataset;
• receiving a first user interaction with a first affordance that is displayed on the user interface, the first user interaction further specifying the data object;
• and
• in response to receiving the first user interaction with the first affordance:
• retrieving the metadata information corresponding to the data object;
• generating second data describing the dataset according to the retrieved metadata information, the generating includes assigning a semantic level to the second data according to a modality of the second data, wherein the second data has a second modality and the semantic level of the second data is different from the semantic level of the first portion of the first data;
• and
• concurrently displaying, on the user interface, the first data and the second data describing the dataset.
