Abstract
A method of detecting a defect in an electronic display includes taking a digital image of the electronic display; and electronically determining if an area of the electronic display is defective based on data of the digital image.
Claims10
A system to detect a hot pixel of an electronic display, comprising:
- a video source configured to drive the electronic display to a uniform grayscale;
- a computer operatively connected to a digital camera;
- and
- the digital camera configured to capture a digital image of the electronic display driven to the uniform grayscale and send data of the digital image to the computer and saved in a memory,
- wherein the computer is configured to:
- calculate a luminance value for each pixel of the digital image based on the color values;
- for each pixel of the digital image:
- calculate an average luminance of a plurality of pixels located in predetermined directions relative to the pixel, including pixels directly above, directly below, and directly to one side of the pixel;
- identify the pixel for further analysis when a difference between the luminance value of the pixel and at least one of the calculated average luminance values exceeds a threshold;
- and
- for each pixel identified for further analysis:
- determine whether a number of other pixels also identified for further analysis within a predetermined surrounding area exceeds a predetermined number, thereby identifying a defective region.

A method of detecting a defect in an electronic display, comprising:
- capturing data of a digital image of the electronic display by a digital camera, and by a computer:
- building an array of color values for each pixel of the digital image;
- calculating a luminance value for each pixel of the digital image based on the color values;
- for each pixel of the digital image:
- calculating an average luminance of a plurality of pixels located in predetermined directions relative to the pixel, including pixels directly above, directly below, and directly to one side of the pixel;
- identifying the pixel for further analysis when a difference between the luminance value of the pixel and at least one of the calculated average luminance values exceeds a threshold;
- and
- for each pixel identified for further analysis:
- determining whether a number of other pixels also identified for further analysis within a predetermined surrounding area exceeds a predetermined number, thereby identifying a defective region.
