Abstract
A recombinant camelina plant or cell comprising one or more polynucleotides encoding a A6-desaturase, a A6-elongase and a A5-desaturase operably linked with one or more regulatory sequences.
Claims18
An oil extracted from genetically modified Brassicaceae seeds, wherein said oil comprises
- (a) eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) wherein EPA constitutes at least 15% (mol %) of the total fatty acid content of said oil and
- (b) γ-linolenic acid (GLA), wherein GLA constitutes less than 10% (mol %) of the total fatty acid content of said oil,
- wherein said oil is directly obtained by pressing or extracting it from the seed of said genetically modified Brassicaceae, and wherein said genetically modified Brassicaceae seeds comprise exogenous polynucleotides encoding an acyl-CoA-dependent Δ6-desaturase, a Δ6-elongase, and a Δ5-desaturase, wherein each polynucleotide is operably linked to one or more promoters that direct expression of said polynucleotides during development of the seed, wherein the Δ6-desaturase comprises an amino acid sequence that has at least 95% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:
- 2 or 20, and wherein said Brassicaceae is from the Camelina genus.

An oil extracted from genetically modified Brassicaceae seeds, wherein said oil comprises
- (a) eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) wherein EPA constitutes at least 15% (mol %) of the total fatty acid content of said oil and/or docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) wherein DHA constitutes at least 5% (mol %) of the total fatty acid content of said oil and
- (b) γ-linolenic acid (GLA), wherein GLA constitutes less than 10% (mol %) of the total fatty acid content of said oil,
- wherein said oil is directly obtained by pressing or extracting it from the seed of said genetically modified Brassicaceae, and wherein said genetically modified Brassicaceae seeds comprise exogenous polynucleotides encoding an acyl-CoA-dependent Δ6-desaturase, a Δ6-elongase, a Δ5-desaturase, a Δ5-elongase and a Δ4-desaturase, wherein each polynucleotide is operably linked to one or more promoters that direct expression of said polynucleotides during development of the seed, wherein the Δ6-desaturase comprises an amino acid sequence that has at least 95% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:
- 2 or 20, and wherein said Brassicaceae is from the Camelina genus.
